Install Instructions for Diablo Hole Saw Packout Inserts
These are the installation instructions to use for your Diablo Hole Saw Milwaukee Packout Inserts as well as Tips and Tricks for use.
Compatibility:
These Milwaukee Packout Hole Saw Inserts are tested and confirmed working with the Diablo Hole Saw 5pc Kit (for the bottom insert) and the various Milwaukee Hole Saws and Milwaukee Hole Saw Kits (up to 6”) for the top insert. These inserts are designed to fit only in the Milwaukee Compact Organizer (48-22-8435).
There are 2 versions included with your order.
Bottom Version is for the diablo 5pc hole saw kit (the red ones with arbor attached).
Top Version is for any combination of Milwaukee hole saws up to 6”.
Top Insert Installation:
For the top insert, insert it into the top part of the compact organizer.
Decide your layout for the top insert. The kit includes 3 “small” pegs in red and 3 “heavy duty” pegs in black that are designed to be screwed into the various spots on the top insert. You can leave the pegs out and put your hole saws in the top insert and arrange them how you want before securing the pegs, to get an idea of the layout you want.
If you do have a 6” hole saw, its recommended to install a black “heavy duty” peg in the spot marked 6”. That is tested to be the best place to keep the 6” hole saw.
If you do not have a 6” hole saw, then put a black “heavy duty” peg in the 5” marked spot, that way you have a bit more room.
For the spots on the left, its up to you how you want to arrange everything, see the photos below for reference how I used mine for example.
Bottom Insert Installation:
For the bottom insert, simply insert it (its labeled bottom vs top) into the bottom part of the compact organizer.
The diablo 5pc kit is best stored as shown in the pics below. Ideally, they should be angled upwards as shown in the image below, to ensure they stay put and easy to remove.
You can use the slot dividers as a way of storing the diablo arbor as shown in the image below.
If you don’t have diablo hole saws, or only a few, you can use the slots to store other hole saws, for example Milwaukee ones (though shorter) fit just fine standing upright (vertical). The rightmost slot stores up to a 2” hole saw for example in the upright position. You can even store multiple ones lining up, just use whatever fits!
TIPS AND TRICKS:
The sides of the inserts have a textured finish, to allow you to remove the inserts easier.
You can use the middle compartment to store the various arbors and other bits.
The hex shaped holder on the bottom insert, can be used to store various Allen keys.
There are slots for various drill bits in the bottom part of the bottom insert.
The floor of the inserts is an open shaped hex pattern, to allow you to easily clean debris out without having to remove the hole saws!
The red vs black pegs are around the thickness of the plastic part of the peg, the red ones are a bit thinner allowing for smaller hole saws to easily fit on them. The black ones are thicker, and more suited for bigger hole saws with the larger hole thread in them, allowing for a more secure hold vs the red ones. I would suggest using the black pegs for any hole saw larger then 2” and anything less then 2” the red ones would work better for.
The pegs are pretty strong using long M5x60mm bolts and are secured to brass heated m5 inserts that has been melted through solid plastic (that’s what the circle solid parts are around the brass inserts, for strength). While they are pretty tough at the end of the day it is still brass and plastic, so its possible with very strong impacts or falling off a roof for example, the pegs may get ripped out of the plastic, plus depending on how many hole saws you have, that’s a lot of weight and mass. I’ve tested them myself with all the hole saws as shown in the pics and as violently as I could, shaking the box around a lot and they held just fine, but just wanted to point out that any extreme force more then a reasonable amount, could break the pegs loose. This is mostly the case for having a 6” hole saw and many laying on top of it as that is a lot of weight and force, but you shouldn’t have any problems unless it falls of a roof or something extreme like that.
There are 2 slots on the top insert to store pegs not in use, they aren’t designed to hold any hole saws just there incase you want to store a few pegs out of sight.
You don’t have to use all the pegs, there are plenty of various positions you can use to suite your needs best, so if you only need a few just keep the others incase you want to change your layout later (or store them on the right side out of the way).
